Phlebotomy Training in the Bay Area
There are so many different schools to get phlebotomy training in the Bay Area. The northern California bay area has nearly 20 school located in the immediate area. Prospective phlebotomists need to finish some type of phlebotomy classes if you want to become a licensed phlebotomist in California. Each of the programs below are approved through the State of California and are programs structured to meet all state requirements.
There are a few programs for phlebotomy training in the bay area located right in the city. There are a few programs in the downtown area and many more within driving distance or a short commute with the BART. Students can expect most programs to meet the standards necessary to get licensed as a phlebotomist in California. The averages of the programs are as follows:

City College of San Francisco

There is a phlebotomy training in the Bay Area offered through City College of San Francisco. The program teaches the 20 hour advanced class, a 20 hour basic class and a 40 hour clinical portion. Currently classes are held on Tuesday from 4PM to 8PM and Thursday from 4PM to 8:30PM. The program runs from January 14 to May 22, 2014. The total cost of the program is about $491 dollars. That includes tuition, background screening fee, drug screening fee, NHCA certification fee and all supplies.
Students must have a high school diploma or a GED. Students must place into a minimum English level or have an associate’s degree. Uniform consists of a lab coats and scrubs. Students must show proof of a recent physical examination and all immunizations. Students must complete a background check and a drug screening.
Bay Area Medical Academy

You have another option for phlebotomy training in the San Francisco area through bay area Medical Academy. This program has classes taught in five week, four week and two week formats. The day class is taught in two weeks. The weekend course is taught in a five week format. Each class is broken into a 60 hour classroom portion and an externship to follow. The cost of the program is $2,750 including tuition and books.

There is a CPT 1 phlebotomy program taught by Fast Response in Alameda. This phlebotomy training in the Bay Area is 145 hours long. That includes 65 hours of classroom time and 80 hours of a clinical externship. The class can be taken full time from 9AM to 4:30PM Monday through Friday over four weeks. The part time program runs from 6:00PM to 10:00PM Monday through Thursday for 6 weeks. The total cost of this program is $2,654. This includes tuition, textbooks, uniforms, supplies and all fees.
Students must be at least 18 years of age and show proof of a high school diploma/ GED. You must complete a background check. A Wonderlic exam must also be taken and passed with a minimum score.
Bay Area Medical Academy

There is another class taught by bay area Medical Academy in San Jose. This phlebotomy training in the Bay Area is 100 hours in length. It is made up of 60 hours of lectures and instruction. It also includes a 40 hour externship. This program allows you to get licensed as a CPT-1. Classes are taught Monday through Friday from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. The cost of the program is $2,750 including textbooks and tuition.
De Anza College

There is a program offering phlebotomy training in Cupertino at De Anza College. This phlebotomy training in the bay area is taught in a 12 month part time basis. The program can cost about $3,600 for tuition, books, fees and insurance. This program is made up of 18.5 total units. This includes classes in basic medical terminology, clinical laboratory procedures, advanced clinical laboratory procedures, medical law and ethics, an externship and a skill building seminar. Prerequisites include taking computer literacy, health technologies, first aid and CPR.

This program costs a total of $13,200 for tuition and fees. The program meets all requirements to get a phlebotomy CPT-1 license in California. This phlebotomy class also includes an externship and a CPR certification.
Contra Costa Medical Career College

There are additional fees for uniforms, examinations and costs to register. Students are required to get a background check and also pass a drug screen. A CPR card from the AHA is also required. There are classes taught during the day, at night and on the weekends. The Day class is taught Monday through Thursday 9:00AM to 2:30PM over four weeks. The evening class is taught over 8 weeks from 5:00PM to 10:00PM on Mondays and Wednesdays. There is also a 6 week program taught on Saturdays and Sundays.
Diablo Medical Training

Another place to get phlebotomy training is through Diablo Medical Training. The program is made up of a 50 hours of classroom training, 40 hours of didactic training and 10 hours of practical experience. This phlebotomy training in the bay area takes 6 weeks to complete and includes an 80 hour externship. The classroom, didactic and practical portions are completed over two days a night per week. Before starting an externship you must meet the necessary requirements. You must get all of your immunizations. You also must provide proof of a negative TB test. All students must get a background check and pass a drug screening. This phlebotomy program costs about $2,651.50 for the tuition, supplies and fees. You must also buy a textbook, a uniform and pay for screenings. The estimated total cost is $2,959.50.

You can get phlebotomy training in the bay area through Gurnick Academy. This program is an 80 hour CPT-1 program taught in Concord. The total time to complete the training is 10 weeks. The classroom portion is about 5 weeks in length. The externship is the last five weeks of the class. This program costs $2,976.50 for fees, tuition and textbooks. Classes are generally taught twice per week for 4 hours at a time. Students must have a high school diploma or equivalent. They must be at least 18 years old and pass an entrance examination. The next class starts April 22, 2014.
Health Career College

There is a 133 hour program for phlebotomy taught through Health Career College. This is made up of a 10 week classroom portion and a 4 week externship. This program requires students have a high school diploma and proof of medical insurance. You must also take an entrance examination. To start the externship you must show proof of immunizations and a negative TB test. You must also have a CPR card and get a background check. This program cost $2,500. That includes the tuition of $2,200, supplies of $204, a $1 assessment fee and a $75 non refundable transaction fee. The cost of the textbook is $65 and the cost of the uniform is $50.
Kaiser School of Allied Health Sciences

There is another option for phlebotomy training in the bay area through the Kaiser School of Allied Health Sciences in Richmond. This is a 320 hour phlebotomy program that is offered four times per year. There are requirements to enter this program they include filling out an application and paying a non refundable $55 fee. Applicants must also have a CPR card from the American Heart association. Students must also have a sealed high school transcript as part of their application. There are only a limited amount of students selected for each rotation of the year. You must also get proof of all immunizations and have a physician sign off on a recent exam. Students will be required to complete a background check and pass a drug screening. The cost of this program is about $2,756.50 for the lab fees, tuition and application fee. There will be additional to take the certifying exam and apply for the State of California CPT-1. Students will also be responsible for buying textbooks and uniforms.

In total the program should take about 106 hours to complete. In total this program should take about 13 weeks. That includes 12 weeks for the classroom section and 1 week for the externship.
Santa Rosa Junior College

You can also get phlebotomy training in the bay area through Santa Rosa Junior College. This program in the Sonoma area is made up of one class. Students must have all of their immunization before starting the class. There is a physical examination required in addition to a background check. It is made up of 40 hours of classroom learning and 40 hours of practical learning. This phlebotomy program costs $508 for the tuition, fees, textbooks and uniform. The program should take 8 to 10 weeks to complete. Classes are held at least 4 times per week.
