There are several programs that offer phlebotomy Training in Columbus Ohio. Currently there is no state law in Ohio that requires phlebotomists to become licensed or certified. Phlebotomy training is optional but it does have many benefits. It can give students all of the skills needed to work as a phlebotomist or laboratory assistant. It may also include an externship or clinical portion. An externship is good because it give you real life experience. Most externship occur at local clinics or hospitals. When completed with a program you may have the option to get a national certification. There are many organizations that provide an examination at the end of training. If you pass you can get certified through that organization.

Length: 4 weeks; 6 weeks

There are two programs for phlebotomy training in Columbus Ohio offered through Ohio School of Phlebotomy. The first is a six week program. The six week program costs a total of $650. That includes tuition, textbooks and fees. It is taught evenings Monday & Wednesdays from 5:30PM to 9:30PM. The morning session is Wednesday and Friday from 9:30AM to 1:30PM. There is an afternoon session taught from 12:30PM to 4:30PM. The six week program This program is made up of a classroom portion and a 40 hour externship. The next morning session starts August 13th. The next night class starts August 18th. The afternoon class has a new session July 29, 2014.

For those that have prior healthcare experience there is a four week program as well. This four week program costs $650 for books, tuition, materials and fees. The program meets Tuesday evening from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. Saturday morning classes are also taught from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. There is an optional one or two day externship for those that want it.

Columbus State Community College

A second option for phlebotomy training in Columbus Ohio is through the Columbus State Community College. This program takes 2 semesters to complete. The first semester consists of classroom learning and some clinical experience at an outpatient facility. The second semester is focused on a inpatient clinical experience. Students can take either the ASCP or NCA examination for national certification. The cost of the program is about $530 for tuition. That does not include costs for uniforms, fees and textbooks.

You must apply to Columbus state and place into English 1100. Prerequisites include taking a medical terminology course first. Students entering this program must complete a background check and drug screening. Student must have record of a physical examination and all vaccinations. You must also complete a TB test.

Students looking for another training option can go to The Training Center. This program is 12 days long or about 3 weeks. IT is taught Monday through Thursday from 9:00AM to 3:30PM. The cost of this class is $700 for tuition and registration fees. You can take a national certification examination for an extra $115 fee. Students must have at least a high school diploma or GED. You must have a CPR card and be at least 18 years of age.

Larock Healthcare Academy

Length: 7.5 weeks or 5 weeks

There is a program for phlebotomist training at Larock Healthcare Academy. The program spans either 7.5 weeks or 5 weeks. The 7.5 week class is taught twice a week for 4 hours a day. The 5 week class is taught three days a week for 4 hours a day. The class is 58 hours in total length. 35 hours of the program is the classroom portion. The laboratory section is 23 hours in length. This program allows students to become certified through the National Healthcareer Association. The cost of this program for phlebotomy training in Columbus Ohio is $649. That includes textbooks, supplies and tuition. Students must have at least a high school diploma or a GED. You must be at least 18 years old. There is also a TB test and physical exam required
