There is a two credit course for phlebotomy training in Flint Michigan that is offered through Mott Community College. This program is offered at several different times and is usually limited to 20 students per class. Students learn the basic including anatomy/physiology, how to draw blood, proper medical terminology and the safety standards associated with working in the healthcare field. Students who take this class are able to practice drawing blood and perfecting those skills regularly throughout the course. The course is designed for anybody and can be beneficial for current nurses or laboratory techs. Medical assistants and Certified Nursing Assistants may also find it helpful. Classes generally require about two hours a week. The entire program takes a full semester or 16 weeks to finish.
There are no prerequisites to enter the course. It is however recommended that students get a Hepatitis B vaccine due to the exposure to bodily fluids. You just need to enroll through the college and pay any tuition / fees. Tuition and fees may be as little as $365 for the two units if you live in the district area. The book for the class will be about $72 if buying it new. Students can elect to rent or buy a used textbook as well.
