Classes for phlebotomy training in Gainesville FL are available through Express Training Services. There are two programs that are offered by this school. The first is a one day eight hour workshop. This phlebotomy one day workshop is taught only on Saturdays. It runs from 8:00AM to 4:00PM. The costs of the one day workshop is only $200. The class is typically taught once a month.

The other option is a phlebotomy national examination prep workshop. Students are required to already have a certification in a related field as a CNA, medical assistant, dental assistant. Proof of a license like a RN or LPN can be used as well to enroll. Students that are enrolled in the CNA course through the school can also meet this requirement. This class takes a total of $800 to complete.

The cost includes materials, supplies and exam fees. This class national examination prep class is 80 hours in length. This class is taught either at night or during the day. Night classes go Monday through Thursday from 5PM to 10PM for four weeks. Day classes go Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 4:00PM for two weeks. At the end of the course, the national certification examination is given onsite.

There is one program currently offered by Marion County Community College for phlebotomy training. This program is a 165 hour training that covers the basics of phlebotomy and venipuncture. The basic class take a total of 21 weeks to complete. It costs a total of $1,036. This includes $483 for tuition, $180 for lab fees, $158 for books and $209 for expenses. The program is currently offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00PM to 9:00PM.

There is also an advanced training class that allows students to take a national examination. This class costs a total of $ 557. That includes $392 for tuition, $35 for lab fees, $74 for books and $50 for other expenses. The advanced class is about 10 weeks in length. The length does vary depending on the schedule and times it is offered. Requirements for both the basic and advanced classes include completing an application. Applications are usually due two months before the class starts. Students must have at least a high school diploma or GED. A skills test may be required. The skills test can be waived with copies of acceptable transcripts showing readiness.

Certification Requirements

There are no state requirements for phlebotomists in Florida. However, Florida laboratory technicians are required to be licensed through the Department of Health. Laboratory technicians are not required to have phlebotomy training but it may be beneficial. Medical assistants may also find it beneficial to become phlebotomy trained.
