For those that will be working in Nevada as a phlebotomist, there is an expectation that you will need to be licensed through the State of Nevada. There are two license differentiations for phlebotomist certification in Nevada. The first is what is known as a “laboratory assistant” which allows you to work in an independent laboratory. Those falling under a “laboratory assistant” would most likely be working in an inpatient facility. Those who work in an outpatient facility or hospital setting will most likely need to be licensed as an “office laboratory assistant”. This type of classification is made up of both medical assistants and phlebotomists. The primary difference is that an office laboratory assistant works in a private physician’s office.

The total length of this program for phlebotomy training in Las Vegas is about three months. The total program cost for this phlebotomy training program in $3,871. That amount includes all costs such as textbooks, uniforms, fees and supplies. The total length of the the program is approximately 300 hours total.
The format of the class is made up of ten total program credits. There is an introductory study skills class of one credit that give tips that will benefit the rest of your studies. There additionally is a CPR & First Aid course that is made up of half a credit. Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology is taught in addition to a laboratory & communication course for one credit each. Then there is the phlebotomy course that will teach you all of the specific phlebotomy and venipuncture information. The program is then capped off with an externship course of three and a half credits.

This program teaches students to become a phlebotomist and a lab assistant. The program offers both afternoon and evening classes. The minimum requirements include having a high school diploma or GED. The cost is $3,225 for the entire program, not including the uniform. There are additional scholarships and grants available. This phlebotomy class takes about 13 weeks to complete. The first 10 weeks is a classroom session based at the school . The last three weeks is a clinical portion that is taught at an offsite location. There is an opportunity to learn the software used in most laboratories. An overview of proper labeling and how to conduct billing and coding of laboratory tests is also taught through this program.

There was a university level program for phlebotomy training in Las Vegas offered through the University of Nevada Las Vegas. It is important to note this program may not currently be offered but has been offered in the past by the university. This program upon completion awards you with a certificate of proficiency in Specimen Collection & Handling. Those that wish to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences have that option too. There are also minors in clinical laboratory sciences. It is important to note however that due to budget cuts, all or few of these programs may still be available. There are several prerequisites that you must meet in order to enter into the program. The first is that your are enrolled at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). The next is that you have an overall grade point average of 2.5. You must take and pass a drug test as well as get cleared through a background check. During the program you will be required to have medical insurance and you must have all of the necessary immunizations. There is also TB test required. At the end of the program you will be offered to take an examination offered through the National Credentialing Agency for Clinical Laboratory Personnel or American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

This phlebotomy training in Las Vegas is offered through Phlebotomy Learning Center of Las Vegas. This program requires that students have a high school diploma or GED and are 18 years of age by the finish of the program. English fluency is required as well. You will need to have all of your immunizations and will need to have a TB test done. The total length of the program is 45 hours for the classroom portion. Additionally, there is a 40 hours externship also offered in connection to the classroom learning. The classroom structure of this phlebotomy training in Las Vegas consists of one class a week that is about four and a half hours in length each week. Classes are typically held once a week on a Saturday or a week night for about 10 weeks. The externship portion will allow you to obtain over 100 venipunctures in a real world setting. This program qualifies you to take the ASCP examination test that will allow you to become certified. The total cost of the program is $1995 with flexible payment plans with a down payment and installments thereafter.
College of Southern Nevada

The College of Southern Nevada is a college that offers phlebotomy training in Las Vegas. The program is a certificate of completion that prepares students to become a phlebotomist. The total cost of the program is approximately $715 for the credits, admission fees, lab fees, books and uniforms. There are additional cost that will be incurred as part of the admission process. These costs include approximations of $37 for a drug screen and $50 for an official background check. There additionally is a requirement that you obtain a physical examination, obtain all immunizations and have health insurance for the duration of the program. A health examination from a doctor will also need to be completed at your cost. At the end of the program you will need to submit $125 for certification and $60 to the State of Nevada for the state licensure.
The program is made up of a total of 6 credit units. There are three courses. The first CLS 151B takes you through the classroom portion and basic concepts. The next, CLS 152B, allows you to apply that knowledge in a test setting. The Third is practicum internship that allows you to complete a 3 week, Monday through Friday program to get on the job experience.The basic requirement for the program includes proof of a GED or high school diploma. You also must be able to place into 101 or 113 and Math 95 via the Accuplacer Placement test. If you have already taken at least English 100 or Math 95 and passed with a minimum of a C grade then you have already met this requirement for admission. Selection into the program is made by ranking of test scores, grade, and prior work experience to determine placement. You will also need to submit what is known as a limited entry application and corresponding limited entry checklist
This program currently only has one session left for 2014. The next session in the Fall requires the application be turned in by July 1, 2014.
Northwest Career College

The last program for phlebotomy training in Las Vegas is offered through the Northwest Career College. The total cost of the program is $3,200. This is made up of $3,040 for tuition and fees. The last $160 goes toward books and materials. The format for the program is taught with a night session Monday through Thursday from 6:00PM to 10:00PM. The total length of this phlebotomy training is about 14 weeks. There structure of the program is made up of many sections. You will learn the overall health care structure you will be working in and safety in the workplace. There are also topics covered on medical law, medical ethics, and medical terminology. The phlebotomy specific sections include laboratory tests and venipuncture procedures. The program caps off with a clinical externship. Upon completion of the program you will be able to take the RPT examination from the American Medical Technologists (AMT). The requirements for this phlebotomy training program are a high school diploma or GED. You must be at least 18 years of age to enroll in the training.
