The total length of this phlebotomy training program is about two terms in length. The first term consists of the basic phlebotomy topics and technique study to work as a phlebotomist. In the first term you will complete about 90 hours of classroom and lab training. It will prepare you for the next term consisting of the phlebotomy practicum. This 100 hour clinical practicum will allow you to obtain over 100 successful blood draws. Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to sit for  the American Society for Clinical Pathologists.

The requirements for the program include have a high school diploma or a GED and be at least 18 years of age at the start of the program.  You must also have minimum Compass scores of 70 for Writing, 50 for Math and 82 for Reading. You will also need  to have proof of vaccinations These vaccinations include hepatitis B, influenza, measles, varicella and tetanus. Additionally, you will need to get a TB test done and complete a background check at a cost of about $24.99. Candidates for the program will be interview prior to placement.

West Coast Phlebotomy is located in Oregon City which is about 30 minutes southeast of downtown Portland. The general requirements are that you must have a high school diploma or GED and be 18 years of age. You must have current CPR certification, a Hepatitis B immunization or waiver, a tetanus immunization and a TB test. The total cost of this program for phlebotomy training in Portland Oregon is $2,635. This includes at $25 application fee, $150 registration fee, supplies of $595, liability insurance of $40 and tuition of $1,825. There is an additional $60 not included in the above amount that will cover the lab coat and stethoscope

The course runs about 6 weeks in length and consists of both classroom instruction and clinical practice. This classroom schedule runs from Monday through Thursday from 8AM to 1:30PM. You will learn phlebotomy basics, medical terminology and anatomy fundamentals. The total internship time is three weeks. It is a full time requirement that runs Monday through Friday for a total of 40 hours a week.
