The medical assistant training is offered through Carrington College and the laboratory assistant program is offered through Truckee Meadows Community College.

The medical assistant program offered through Carrington College will allow you to become a medical assistant most likely working in a hospital setting. There are several elements of phlebotomy training that are part of the medical assisting program. Medical assistants often fill the role of a phlebotomist for those hospitals that do not have them. A medical assistant will also be required to complete a larger range of tasks and has more responsibility

The medical assistant program through Carrington College is taught in three sections. Students are taught a clinical and administrative class.  Students will learn how to use medical equipment, monitor vital signs and how to interact with patients. There are also several phlebotomy related duties you will learn. These include how to draw blood from a patient and how to conduct various laboratory tests. The program is then capped with an externship that allows students to get actual job experience. Students can expect to learn in a clinical as well as classroom lecture format. At the end of the program each student will be eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant certification examination. The total cost of the program is $15,071. The program can be taken to gain a certificate or as part of an Associate’s degree.

There is another option for getting phlebotomy training in Reno NV. A program for clinical laboratory specialists is offered through Truckee Meadows Community College. This program is offered through the college and requires that you be enrolled through the college. This phlebotomy certification program trains you to become a laboratory technician or a phlebotomy technician. The program not only teaches you how to draw blood. It also shows you how to perform various lab tests in a clinical lab. This program also allows you to become a certified Phlebotomy Technician by passing an examination provided by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.  The total program is made up of six college units and requires three separate classes to be taken.

There are several requirements to meet before entering this program for phlebotomy training in Reno NV. The program cost for six units is $507 for Nevada Residents as of 2013-2014. This does not include additional fees that may be required. Students looking to enroll must order a background check at a cost of about $50.
