Phlebotomy training in Sacramento has a variety of options for those looking to become a phlebotomist. Some program are more oriented toward medical assistant and other toward laboratory assistants. All the programs below have been certified through the State of California as a phlebotomy training provider.
Available Course Offerings:
There are a total of six programs that currently offer phlebotomy training in Sacramento or have done so in the past. The course offerings are continually changing each semester and during the year. The format to become a CPT I licensed phlebotomist is similar in most programs. On average you can expect to pay $2,700 to $4,000 for classes. The time to completion can vary from eight to 16 weeks.

This phlebotomy training in Sacramento is for high school students only. The student must be at least 17 years of age at the start of the course and have turned 18 by the end. This phlebotomy training course runs one semester long and can earn a student up to 15 credits while in high school. Upon completion of the course, the student will need to complete a 40 hour externship where they must have 50 successful venipunctures and 10 successful skin punctures. Upon completion of the course, a state approved national examination can be taken as a requirement for the state license. Prior course work including anatomy and physiology is highly recommended. Current courses are running on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 8:15 PM at Rio Cazadero High.
FOLSOM LAKE COLLEGE

The Medical Laboratory Technician program at Folsom Lake College is an associate degree program that prepares you to be a medical laboratory technician. This program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science. Additionally this program is approved by the State of California as an approved phlebotomy training course. You must be an enrolled student through Los Rios College and meet all of the requirements to enter the program. Upon completion of the program you must be able to complete the certifying examination. Applications for this program will be accepted through July 1st. The requirements to enroll include the completion of the following:

This phlebotomy training in Sacramento is offered through MTI College is offered as a standalone program or in conjunction with their medical assistant program. This phlebotomy training program is approved by the National Center for Competency Testing, the American Medical Technologists (AMT), as well as the State of California. At the end of the course, you can take the National Certified Phlebotomy Technician examination that is administered through the MTI College itself. There is a 40 hour externship portion that allows you to be placed by the school with area employers like laboratories or hospitals. If you were to complete the program in conjunction with the medical assistant program the total cost for tuition, books and supplies would be $16,657.00.
The program can be taken without taking the medical assistant program if certain conditions are met. You must have graduated from the MTI college medical assistant program with at least a 3.5GPA or have completed any medical assistant program in the past 3 years. You can also take the class if you have at least 1 year of medical experience in the past 5 years.
KAISER PERMANENTE SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH

This phlebotomy training program through Kaiser Permanente is offered at the Stockton campus. This is about 50 miles away from Sacramento and can be reached one way in about 50 minutes. The total cost of the program is 2,752.50 not including the $90 NCCT examination fee and State of California $100 application fee. The program trains you to become a California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I and runs about 320 hours total. The phlebotomy training program is made up of 80 hours of didactic training, 80 hours of in class practicum, and a 160 hour clinical portion. There are four sessions that start at about the beginning of each quarter.
To apply to the program you must have a valid American Heart Association CPR card, immunizations, and physical exam documentation. There is a minimum requirement for a high school diploma, GED or proof of 12 college credits. Your application must be filed about two to three months prior to the beginning of the class. Your application can not be mailed and must be hand delivered. After finishing up classes, check for jobs that are available through Kaiser. The next program is starts in the fall and applications must be in by July 28, 2016 to enroll in the next class from October 3, 2016 to December 16, 2016.

There is a 104 hour course offered through Sierra College. This phlebotomy program is made up of a 64 hour classroom/clinical session and a 40 hour externship. Classes are taught on Saturdays from 8AM to 5PM over an eight week period. The total cost of the classes is $2,950 including tuition, textbooks and supplies. Students will need to obtain a CPR card, get a physical examination and have a TB screening before starting the externship. Externships require students be able to attend at lease 2-4 times a week with full-time (5 days a week) an option.The next class starts June 13, 2016 and goes until June 24, 2016.
