There are several schools that offer phlebotomy training in Ventura County. California requires that phlebotomists be certified in order to work in the state. Most jobs require that students are CPT 1 certified. That means taking both a basic and advanced phlebotomy course. The number of hours for basic and advanced class should be at least 40 hours. Externships are also available in most programs to allow students to get students complete successful blood draws to become certified.

One way to get phlebotomy training in Ventura County through Academy Education Services / Clinical Training Institute. This program requires a total of 104 hours of didactic and clinical training. This includes 64 hours of didactic training. 40 hours is dedicated to clinical training. This program is currently in three different time slots. There are day classes available Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. Night classes are taught Monday through Thursday from 6:00PM to 10:00PM. There are weekend classes also that are taught on Saturdays from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The full cost of the program is $2,141 for tuition and books. There is an option to pay only $500 to reserve a seat and put down a deposit.

The total cost of the whole program is $1280 for both the advanced class and the basic class, textbooks, uniforms, the externship fee and the examination cost. The externship is available for students who are seeking to become certified in the state. The total phlebotomy program is currently taught in an 11 week program. The requirements for the program include being at least 18 years old and having a high school diploma/GED. The externship may require additional requirements such as proof of immunizations.

The first six weeks are spent in the basic phlebotomy class. This class teaches basic safety regulations and how to operate equipment. Another class for phlebotomy training in Ventura County is offered by the Simi Valley Adult School. This program costs a total of $1,175 for tuition and textbooks. The program is made up of a basic phlebotomy course, an advanced phlebotomy course and an externship. The basic and advanced phlebotomy classes take a total of 11 weeks to complete across 21 meetings. The classroom sessions are currently taught on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. Students will then be placed into a 2 week externship after the end of classroom sessions.

Students must have proof of a high school diploma or GED before entering the program. There is also a requirement to be 18 years of age and be able to speak, read and write english. A physical examination must be signed off on by a physician and proof of immunizations must be shown. The space for the program is limited and selection is made on a lottery basis.

There is a fourth program for phlebotomy training in Ventura County through Ventura Adult Education. This program includes a basic phlebotomy training class and an advanced phlebotomy training class. The basic phlebotomy training class is five weeks long and is currently taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00PM to 9:15PM. The basic phlebotomy training by itself costs $450 not including textbooks. The advanced phlebotomy training class is taught for four weeks with an externship to follow . It is currently taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00PM to 9:15PM. The advanced class costs about $450 and does not include textbooks. The total program costs is about $1000 with textbooks and fees.

The requirements to enroll in the classes include have a high school diploma or GED. Students must at least 18 years of age to enroll. Immunizations must be current and proof is required. There may be additional requirements for the externship. The school also has NCCT testing available for those that need to get certified.

Get Certified as a Phlebotomist in California

Once students complete phlebotomy training in Ventura County, they need to complete the process of getting certified. They need to make sure that they complete all of the requirements to become a phlebotomist in California. This mean passing the class and taking a state approved examination.
